As a Graphic Design Assistant for the University of Georgia Nutritional Sciences Department, I designed three original restaurant identities and menus for Menu Switch, an educational program that teaches children, young adults, and adults how to make healthier dining choices when eating out.

I began by researching the branding, menu items, and menu systems of Chick-fil-A, Taqueria La Parrilla, and American Deli, the three restaurants that inspired the new concepts. I analyzed what made each restaurant recognizable, identified effective layouts and hierarchy systems, and noted opportunities to improve clarity and usability in the new designs.

Using that research, I created three original restaurant brands: Cluck-n-Go, El Fogón, and Main Street Wings. Each restaurant featured its own logo, color palette, typography, menu grid, and visual identity. While inspired by familiar dining experiences, every brand was intentionally designed to feel original and avoid replicating the existing restaurants.

Once the identities were established, I designed complete menu systems with clear information hierarchy, intuitive category organization, and consistent layouts that supported both the restaurant branding and the educational goals of the program.

The finished menus were professionally printed and used in classroom activities where participants practiced building balanced meals when choosing to eat out instead of cooking at home. After receiving positive feedback from both educators and participants, the department expanded the menus into additional educational activities.

This project taught me that the best educational experiences don't have to feel generic or like lessons at all. By combining fun and familiar branding with clear information design, I learned how visual design can make learning feel more engaging, approachable, and relevant to everyday life.
